Staffing Company Pays $80K To Resolve ADA Allegations After Firing Employee With Cancer
March 25, 2021
Effex Management Solutions, LLC, has agreed to pay $80,000 to resolve allegations that the Kingwood, Texas-headquartered staffing company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when it fired an employee with cancer after she requested leave for treatment. In January 2017, a female employed by Effex as a procurement specialist was diagnosed with breast cancer and required leave for chemotherapy and other medical treatments. The employee applied for leave for a surgical procedure scheduled for June 2017. However, in May 2017, Effex fired her. Purportedly, the employee had received no counseling or disciplinary action for her job performance before her termination.
