Democrats Propose Legislation to Boost Federal Minimum Wage to $15 by 2025

U.S. House and Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to gradually boost the federal minimum wage until it reaches $15.00 per hour by 2025. TheRaise the Wage Act of 2021would gradually increase the federal minimum wage to $15 across five years and thereafter be indexed to median wage growth. If approved by Congress and President Biden, the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 would gradually increase as follows: 2021 to $9.50, 2022 to $11.00, 2023 to $12.50, 2024 to $14.00, and 2025 to $15.00.The legislation would also gradually increase subminimum wages for tipped workers, youth workers, and workers with disabilities.
